Lexington is a small rural military community. It contains Lexington/Ft. Harris Yard which serves Ft. Harris Special Joint Operations Base several miles away. Only military train traffic is allowed into Ft. Harris Yard. Military rail cars are moved to Ft. Harris Special Operations Base by military engines and personnel.
Lexington has a small depot and businesses of bars, military recruiting office, restaurants, and general stores. Jerry’s Quick Service Station is a popular spot for auto repairs. Stechino Italy Restaurant and Ed’s BQ Shack are community favorites. The Farmer Co-0p, Pillsbury Flour Mill, and Midtown Construction Company require steady railroad switching activity. The St. Joseph River is close by and is enjoyed by many local residences. Canoes can be rented at the nearby Boat Works.
